EDUCATION MAGAZINE
Publication To End REGARDED AS LUXURY PA CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. “At the present moment we cannot afford a luxury of this kind,” said the Minister of Education, Mr Algie, today, confirming reports 4hat publication of the magazine, Education, by the Education Department would be discontinued as soon as the present printing contract expired. Mr Algie said he felt, that this publication, though desirable in many ways, was not essential. “It is printed on very expensive paper, its articles and blocks must be fairly costly, and the publication is distributed free over a wide field, added Mr Algie. "At the present moment we cannot afford a luxury of this kind, but if individual teachers feel that the publication is indispensable, then it is always open to them to publish it themselves on a commercial basis, but under the present circumstances I cannot see how I could justify its publication at the expense of the taxpayer.”
