EDUCATION POLICY
Minister Making Plans CONFERENCE WITH BOARD CHAIRMEN PA ' CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. Before the Minister of Education, Mr Algie, frames his education policy, he proposes to hold conferences with the chairmen and representatives of the nine education boards in New Zealand, the New Zealand Educational Institute, the New Zealand Federation of School Committee Associations and the national organisation of parentteacher associations. Mr Algie announced his intentions at a special meeting of the Canterbury Education Board this afternoon. “I-want the opinion of New Zealand through its representative bodies on various matters concerned with education,” Mr Algie said. “ When I am ready, I propose to confront my colleagues in Cabinet with a considered education policy of some value.” Mr Algie said he was very eager to meet the chairmen of the education boards informally and he would like the chairman of every board to come to Wellington to see him. As they would be there for the Education Boards’ Association Conference on May 25 and 26 he would suggest May 24 for the conference. Mr Algie said the education system of New Zealand was not crying out for sweeping reforms. There were no glaring things that wanted root and branch eradication.
