STILL SERIOUS
Draw On Storage ( Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, May 8. The general manager of the State Hydro-electric Department, Mr A. E. Davenport, in a message to the South Island power supply authorities today, said that the power supply position remained serious. Referring to the 12£ per cent, cut which operates as from today, he said that storage had been drawn on to the extent of 5.7 million units during the week ended at midnight on Sunday, and that this illustrated clearly the urgent necessity for cutting consumption. Consumption during the week just ended was 1.73 per cent, below the allocation. Storage had now fallen below the 100,000,000 unit marks and was now at 99.17 million units.
