POWER QUOTA
Slightly Exceeded DUNEDIN SUPPLY AREA During last week Dunedin exceeded its electricity allocation by only 0.862 per cent. On Friday the demand was 5.86 per cent, under quota, on Saturday ,2.045 per cent, over and on Sunday 2.076 per cent, under the quota. Since Thursday the level of Lake Mahinerangi has fallen by seven inches; yesterday morning it stood at 83ft llin. A meeting of the Dunedin Power Restrictions Advisory Committee will be held this afternoon to give further consideration to the situation. The new reduced allocation was introduced last Thursday, so thaft last week’s allocation represented a reduction on the normal demand of 10 per cent, for the first three days of the week and a reduction of 224. per cent, for the remaining four days. With the new allocation now in force until further notice, the quota each day for the full week represents a reduction of 12£ per cent, of the power used on the corresponding day last year. Taking into consideration the increased demand of approximately 10 per cent, since last year, the new quota represents a reduction of 22jt per cent, on the present normal demand. A further appeal to all consumers to co-operate in saving power was made yesterday through the Daily Times by the assistant City Electrical Engineer, Mr A. H. Dickson. The new reduced broadcasting hours came into force yesterday. From Monday to Friday, stations 4YA and 4ZB will conclude transmission each day at 10.30 p.m. On Saturday, 4YA will close down at 11.15 p.m. and 4ZB at midnight, as usual. On Sunday, the hours of broadcasting by both 4YA and 4ZB will be from 7.30 a.m. until 10 p.m.
