FLIGHT WITH WINGS

Attempt In New Zealand Forecast

PA HAMILTON, May 8. “He has beaten me to it,” was the laconic comment of Mr Brian Musson, New Zealand parachutist, when the recent successful descent by the French Air Force officer, Leo Valentin. with “ batwings ” was discussed during the Waikato Aero Club’s field dav at Rukuhia yesterday. Mr Musson, who, during the display, made his eighty-ninth and ninetieth descents since 1948, said that he had had a pair of such “ batwings ” for some time, but they had not yet been tested. His set was made of silk, but, unlike the French officer's set, it had no ribbings or supports. The batsjvings were so designed that he could step into leggings on them, the upper section of the wings being held in place by sleeves. Mr Musson said that there was a possibility that he might test his “ batwings ” in the not distant future. He learned parachute jumping from .an American officer named Skinner, who accompanied Admiral Byrd to the Antarctic.
