TRADE UNION SPLIT
“Slate Should Be Wiped Clean” OTAGO CARPENTERS’ VIEW A resolution to the effect that it was necessary, in the interests of the trade union movement, to patch the split in the Federation of Labour, was adopted at the monthly meeting of the Otago Carpenters’ Union last night. The resolution, as supplied to the Daily Times by the secretary, Mr S. Ikin. read:— ~ . . . . “ This union, in the interests of unity in the Labour movement, requests that the ‘ slate should be wiped clean ’ in the dispute between the National Executive of the Federation of Labour and the Watersiders’ Union, and that a special conference be called to have this matter recommitted and the federation reconstituted; and that a deadline date be set at June 1 for receiving a reply from the National Executive of the Federation of Labour that a special conference will be held.” Mr Ikin said that the meeting adopted the resolution, after hearing the report of the delegate to the Federation of Labour Conference. Of the 28 members present at the meeting, there were but four dissentients.
