SIGNS OF INCREASE
World Unemployment WARNING IN ILO SURVEY NZPA—Reuter —Copyright Rec. 7 p.m. GENEVA, May 5. The International Labour Organisation’s survey published today warns that there are signs of a coming rise in world unemployment. The survey, which was prepared by ILO economists, will be submitted to the Organisation’s General Assembly meeting on June 7. It says that the first requirement for world-wide full employmnet is “ stabilisation and the continuous expansion of world trade.” The survey proposes international arrangements “to ensure that the currencies of the major countries could be made available to the world on a stable basis, regardless of whether these countries were in fact purchasing their usual requirements of imports." There should also be international agreements to stabilise the prices of all major primary commodities, and Governments should set up unemployment insurance schemes.
