QUEENSTOWN

BOROUGH COUNCIL At the monthly meeting of the Queens-! town Borough Council it was resolved to acquire from England a bituminous tar sprayer unit for the sealing of footpaths and streets in the borough. It was decided that a policy would be adopted by which streets would receive the same treatment with the ultimate aim of all the streets of the town being eventually sealed. An application was received from a syndicate to erect a modern cabaret comprising a sunken ballroom and accommodation tables at the corner of Skippers road and Weaver street. Approval was granted subject to plans and specifications being acceptable. A petition was received asking the council to take action in respect to wandering horses. The petitioners describing the horses as an annoyance to the whole neighbourhood and a threat to the safetv of school children The council appointed all its outside staff as inspectors, with the power to take proceedings and asked, the petitioners to lay Informations if possible. WELCOME RAINFALL Very welcome rain fell on Thursday afternoon and continued on into the evening. This should have beneficial results and should help to remove the power restrictions that have been placed on residents of the district. The prolonged dry spell has also caused concern in respect to water supply requirements for the borough although no restrictions have been imposed up to date and an excellent pressure maintained throughout the year. VITAL STATISTICS a Vital statistics at Queenstown during April are as follows (the figures for the same month last year are shown m parenthesis): Births. 5 (3): deaths, 2, marriages, nil.
