Death Of Mr J. Farquharson
Mr James Farquharson, who has been chairman of the Mayor’s Relief Committee since 1932, died in Dunedin on Thursday night at the age of 85. Starting with the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Ltd., at the age of 19, Mr Farquharson remained with the company until his retirement in 1936. He was accountant, secretary and auditor, and was later promoted to Invercargill as manager He also served in Dunedin as manager and finally as inspector. A loyal supporter of the Presbyterian Church Mr Farquharson was the ruling elder at St. Andrew’s Church for 46 years. He displayed a keen interest in the youth movement, and was a member of the Presbytery of Dunedin for a number of years. Mr Farquharson is survived by his widow and two daughters, Miss E. Farquharson, of Dunedin, and Mrs F. McCaw, of Hakataramea. His only son. Mr S. Farquharson, died in 1947.
