DOMINION MEAT BOARD

Undue Reticence Alleged DELEGATES DISSATISFIED PA INVERCARGILL, Apl. 5. A comparison of the attitude of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board and the New Zealand Wool Board to*wards the producer was made by the Southland Electoral College delegates at a meeting today of the meat and wool section of Federated Farmers (Southland). The Wool Board was credited with being a live organisation, willing to give all the information sought, while the Meat Board was said to be reluctant to part with information. It was pointed out that, as the direct representatives of the producers, members of the Electoral College were entitled to the fullest information. Reporting on a meeting with .the Wool Board, Mr C. J. Speight said that growers generally should be satisfied with the way the Wool Board conducted its business. “We are very fortunate in having such a live body,” he said. “They know their job.” A report on the meeting with the Meat Board was given by another member of the college, Mr D. Brown, who said that from the point of view of the information received the meeting was the most unsatisfactory he had attended with the board. There had been no report from the board about its activities. Some delegates had felt that they were (entitled to a report about the board’s operations. There had also been a certain reluctance on. the part of the board to get down to the requests of the college, said Mr Brown. “ I was not very satisfied about its attitude generally.” “ I am interested in the comparison of the Meat and Wool Boards,” said Mr I. R. Wills. “It seems that whereas the Wool Board was keen to give information, the Meat Board was not as ready to do so and not as ready to collaborate. Is that what you found, Mr Chairman? ” he asked.

The chairman, Mr H. P. Mclntyre, who is also a delegate to the Electoral College, said it was correct that the Meat Board was very guarded on meat matters. “ I would say they are on edge,” he said. Mr Mclntyre added that there was an inkling that delegates from other centres were not altogether satisfied about the attitude of the Meat Board.
