Otago Eight Leaves For Rowing Event

The Otago representative crew left for Picton by the express yesterdayto take part in the Inter-provincial Eight-oared Rowing Race on Saturday. The crew consists of R. Aitken (stroke), D. Calder (7), R. McLaughlin (6), N. Styles (5), N. Glengarry (4). J. Cardno (3), A. McMillan (2), and R. Blaney (bow). R. Wallace is the coxswain. Mr J. Werges accompanied the team as manager and coach. The crew will row in the Otago Association’s new boat, in which Australia won the Eights at the Empire Games. This boat has subsequently been used in four races—Senior and Junior Eights for Otago against Southland, and in two heats of the Interclub Eights held at Port Chalmers—and wins have been recorded on each occasion.
