PROBLEMS OVERCOME
TRANSPORT OPERATORS SERVICES FOR THE GAMES From the Sports Editor AUCKLAND. Feb. 9. The transport arrangements for the carriage of the public to and from the various venues of the Empire Games events, and the control _ of the traffic, have greatly impressed visitors to Auckland The huge crowds that have assembled at Eden Park presented a difficult problem to the tramways authorities and taxi operators, but it was overcome, and the grounds were quickly cleared after the events concluded. No difficulty has been experienced in securing a taxi service to the various grounds, in contrast to the position that sometimes exists when one seeks a taxi at the Dunedin Railway Station. Another feature that has been favourably commented upon is .that in spite of the record number of visitors to Auckland, the restaurant service has been satisfactory, and the cheerfulness of the assistants has often aroused favourable C °Tf anv service has done an outstanding job in connection with the Games, however, it is the Post and Telegraph Department. Noted for their efficiency the telegraph officials have made much lighter the task of New Zealand and overseas pressmen covering the Games. They made provision for teleprinter or runner service at the various venues, provided a well-equipped and spacious press room at the Post Office, and even extended the counter hours for the receipt of copy. Their efforts have been appreciated.
