FULL-LENGTH FILM
EMPIRE GAMES COVERAGE
PREFERABLE TO “SERIES OF SNIPPETS ”
PA WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. Commenting today on a report that the- first film of the Empire Games to be screened in New Zealand would be an 8000 ft feature released a fortnight after the games had ended, the technical director in charge of the film, Mr Geoffrey Scott, said the energies of the New Zealand National Film Unit would be concentrated on turning out a really first-class film rather than “ a series of snippets.” Mr Scott added: “ It will be an enormous advantage to the public to be able to see a first-class record, for no aspect of the games will be omitted. An 8000 ft film will give a better coverage of the games than a series of snippets.” Mr Scott said that the National Film Unit could not make shorts in addition to a long film, and in consultations the Empire Games Committee had said it would prefer a long, complete film to be made.
