A group of upper and lower jaws of various types of toothed whales, all of the smaller variety, which have been salvaged from carcasses washed ashore round the coastline. The papier mache cast included in the group is of the head of a young curvier beaked whale which was stranded at Pipikaretu Beach on the Otago Peninsula in August, 1948. It was 13ft in length. These specimens are now housed in the Otago Museum, which works in conjunction with the zoology department of the University.
