WIN FOR AUSTRALIA

Cricket Match Against Border Home Batsmen Overawed N ZP A—Copyright CAPE TOWN Jan. 16. All the Australian bowlers in the match against Border at East London, except Lindwall, who did not get a wicket, improved their averages today when 20 Border wickets tumbled for 132 runs in less than four hours. It was hectic slaughter of overawed batsmen. Border was routed for 72 and 60 and the Australians won by an innings and 293 runs in less than two days. On a wicket responsive to spin, McCool turned the ball sharply, and W. Johnston’s six wickets were taken with spinners. The Border batsmen gave a very feeble display against a fairly hostile attack. The Border openers, White and Lacey, put on 22 runs for the first wicket in the first innings, but thereafter wickets fell quickly throughout the day. Border’s last five wickets in the first innings fell for 10 runs. In the follow-on Border lost five wickets for 25 and were all out for 60. This .is Australia’s ninth first class win of the tour and the sixth by an innings in 12 games. The other three were drawn.
