COLONEL T. H. PETTIT MEDICAL OFFICER TO LABOUR DEPARTMENT PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 29. Colonel T. H. Pettit, M.C., assistant director of medical services in the Northern Military District, will retire from the army on Saturday after nearly nine years on the active list. He will take up the first appointment of regional medical officer for the Auckland district of the Department of Labour and Employment, and will be responsible for the medical boarding of youths registered for service under the Military Training Act. Although the medical boards at Auckland will consist of doctors on the active and reserve lists of the navy ; army and air force, Dr Pettit’s appointment will ensure full control of the youths by the department until they become available to the services. Dr Pettit served during the First World War as a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps and the New Zealand Medical Corps. When the Second World ’War broke out he was engaged in medical work with the forces in New Zealand. He was for five months British liaison officer, and officer commanding British troops aboard the Dutch hospital ship Oranje. He spent nine months in 1947 as senior medical officer with the 2nd NZEF in Japan.
