CONVERGING ON NAPIER
CREAM OF ATHLETIC TALENT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING PA NAPIER, Dec. 29. Athletes from all parts of New Zealand are arriving at Napier today and tomorrow for the national track and field championships and Empire Games trials which are to begin on Saturday, and there is every likelihood of a record-breaking meeting. The 200 athletes taking part represent the cream of New Zealand’s talent in both the men’s and women’s sections, and the conditions are ejected to be ideal. The track at McLean Park has undergone careful preparation, and its condition has never been better for athletes. With fine weather prevailing over the week-end, it is likely that several new national records will be established. _ . When the meeting opens on Saturday morning, the assembly will pay homage to the memory of Dr J. E. Lovelock, whose death was reported from New York today.
