THREE PEOPLE DIE
HEATWAVE IN NEW SOUTH WALES NZPA—Copyright Rec. 9.45 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 29. Three people have died and many others collapsed in the savage heat wave which is" sending temperatures soaring over the century mark for the fourth day in succession in inland New South Wales. The cool change continues to protect Sydney, but its effects do not extend inland. The deaths occurred at Broken Hill, where the temperature was 108 degrees on Tuesday, 102 degrees yesterday and 94.3 degrees at noon today, with a dry, hot breeze and a sharplyrising thermometer. The victims were men between the ages of 40 and 50. The water position at Ivanh’oe and Bourke, where a number of people collapsed, is serious. At Brewarrina,114 degrees was recorded at 1 p.m. today, and Wilcannia registered 110 degrees at 11.30 a.m.
