BRIGHT FUTURE

TRENCH FIGHT COLT AN IMPRESSIVE WINNER An Impressive winner on the first day at Wingatui in Trench Fray appears to have a particularly bright future, and m eight starts this season he has won twice and been placed four times, his previous win being in the Heretaunga Handicap at Trentham in October. Last season he had an easy win in the Russley Juvenile Handicap at the CJC Easter meeting. Trench Fray is a three-year-old colt by Trench Fight from Fox Moth, by Romeo or Romney from Midget, by Elysian from Seadeloria, by Seaton Delaval, and he is trained by C. C. McCarthy. Jottings Nominations for the Vincent Jockey Club’s meeting close at 6 o’clock tomorrow night. Hobgoblin is not likely to be in novice company very much longer. Formation looks certain to add to his record before the holiday meetings are over. Pageantry is due for a win over hurdles at any time. He raced well at Wingatui to collect two placings. The Defaulter mare Raineri te a long strider and requires plenty of room in her races. Ned Kelly is a fit horse and he looks a good prospect at the holiday meetings. Lord Elgin, the winner of the Dunedin Cup, had not won a race since the Grand National meeting last season. Finished Well The Tiderace colt Indiana finished particularly well in the Waihola Handicap to be narrowly beaten for third Place by Beau Soir. He may be worth following during the holidays. Valley Gold The Balloch horse Valley Gold finished strongly each day at Wingatui after beiofi well back in the early running. The first occasion on which he gets out well he will be hard to beat over a distance. Consistent Performer Few horses have been racing more consistently this season than Beau Soir, who has been started 10 times for one win and eight minor placings. He is creeping up in the weights without getting much in the way of stakes. Fought On Gamely Western Front tried to lead all the way in the Dunedin Cup and the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap, but was beaten bv a narrow margin each time. Tne Coronach chestnut was* turned out in grand condition by J. W. Pankhurst and he fought on very gamely when challenged in the closing stages. If Western Front holds his form he will probably be taken to Trentham next month.
