SLOOP WITHDRAWS
HOBART YACHT RACE TRADE WINDS LEADING NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8.29 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 28. The sloop Suzanne withdrew from the Sydney-Hobart yacht race today with a split mast and sailed into Jervis Bay to effect repairs. Five yachts were sighted this afternoon from Eden pilot station, 311 miles south of Sydney. The cutter Trade Winds appeared to be still ini the lead The leading yachts should enter Bass Strait today in strong southerly weather with prospects of a stormy crossing. The Margaret Rintoul and the Fortuna, which is a mile behind her in third position, radioed their positions at 11.25 p.m. yesterday as about 30 miles south-east of Montagu Island. The Peer Gynt and Mistral II are over 10 miles astern of Fortuna.
