RABBITS WINNING
AUSTRALIA’S FIGHT AGAINST PEST
The cold war against Australia's rabbit is being lost. Unless an all-out effort was made now to control them, great sections of the country's primary industries would be wiped out. said the secretary of the Graziers’ Association of Victoria, recently.
Good seasons in the past few years had made it possible for farmers to absorb the huge losses caused by the pests, but with drier conditions, rabbits could deal a staggering blow to rural industries. But the rabbit is a money earner abroad. Last year’s export pack of 1,168,000 made a record, but it nas been broken this year. By the end of October the pack was 2,170.000 rabbits.—Reuter.—Melbourne.
