TOLL TRAFFIC
INCREASE RECORDED TELEGRAMS SHOW DECREASE For the two days preceding Christmas the number of telegrams handled by the Oamaru Post and Telegraph Department •showed a slight decrease over those for the corresponding period last year. The toll calls showed an increase. For the week preceding Christmas, the telegrams, however, showed an increase over those handled last year. The figures are as follows, with figures* for the two days preceding Christmas, 1948, in parentllCSGS* Telegrams.—December 22: Forwarded, 361 (December 23, 400); received, 467 (519); transmits, 157 (226). December 23: Forwarded, 565 (December 24, 640); received, 575 (637); transmits, 256 (356). Tolls.—December 22: Outward, 607 (December 23, 587). December 23: Outward, 513 (December 24, 486). The mail room handled 2540 bags of mail, this being a slight decrease over the figures for last year. A greater number of Christmas cards was forwarded this year than last, but the number of parcels and packets was somewhat less.
