FAREWELLS TO' MINISTERS THE REV. D. A. BLYTH The high regard in which the Rev. and Mrs D. A. Blyth are held was demonstrated by the Presbyterian parish of Sawyers’ Bay at farewell functions held during the Christmas period. At the Deborah Bay Hall Mrs L. J. Neilson presented a handsome set of commentaries and an envelope on behalf of the residents, and said that Mr Blyth’s work would be long remembered in the Bay. The Deborah Bay PWMU was small in numbers, said the moderator, the Rev. H. O. Bowman, but it was famous throughout the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for its loyalty, and Mrs Blyth had ably carried on its work. The young people of the Sawyers’ Bay township gathered on Christmas Eve and at a high tea made presentations to Mr and Mrs Blyth in appreciation of their work. At the conclusion of the farewell evening service on Christmas Day the congregation gathered in the Sawyers’ Bay Church Hall and Mr F. Harkness expressed good wishes, on behalf of the Methodist congregation, other speakers being Mesdames Miller and Cromonty on behalf of the women of the congregations, and Messrs W. Sauter, J. Paterson, N. Creighton representing various departments of church work. The Rev. H. O. Bowman presided and on behalf of the congrega--tion made a presentation to Mr and Mrs Blyth. THE REV. J. B. CHAMBERS The Rev. J. B. Chambers, Congregational minister of Port Chalmers, who has been called to Timaru, was entertained by his congregation recently. The Revs. H. M. Brasell (Methodist). J. Simpson (Anglican). H. O. Bowman (Presbyterian) and Captain Pont (Salvation Army) spoke of Mr Chambers’s work in Port Chalmers, while the Revs. I. P. Gordon and F. de Lisle (Congregational, Dunedin) mentioned his contribution to the work of the congregational district. Messrs A. J. Brown, H. S. Watson and G. S. Gillespie voiced the appreciation of the community in general and of the school in particular. Mrs C. A. Fraser spoke on behalf of the women of the church, and Mr , R S. Jack, who presided, emphasised the high esteem m which their minister was held. Mr Jack presented Mr and Mrs Chambers with a clock, a barometer and an envelope, while Mrs Munro presented a silver teapot from the yoqth department. Items were given by Mrs R. Tunnage, Misses N. Farquharson, L. Jenkins, D. Faithful and Mr L. J. Neilson.
