AUSTRALIA’S NOISIEST CITY
Sydney is among the noisiest cities in the world and by far the noisiest in Australia. This has been proved by comparing sound /neasurements taken throughout Australia and from information from overseas.
Commonwealth sound experts said that at busy city intersections there were normally 90 to 95 decibels of sound (a decibel is tfie-unjt of sound measurement), while in a suburban home there were only 43 decibels. A team of Commonwealth Health Department doctors, psychologists and physicists is to conduct a survey of Sydney's noise and determine its effect on health and working -efficiency.— Reuter —Sydney.
