SHERLWYN WINS

HARBOUR BOAT RACE Three races in the Z, X and I classes were to have been held by the NorthEast Harbour Boating Club at Macandrew Bay yesterday, but because of the strong seas which swept the harbour, the races were postponed. When the weather cleared an all-comers’ race was held, and 13 boats faced the starter in a light east breeze. Firefly and Julie were the first away and were followed a few minutes later by a fleet of seven Idlealongs. Then came Eileen and Sherlwyn. Over the first stretch the Takapunas held their lead, but on making the line of the boatshed, the boats were bunched. On the broad lead ’’ Flirt was well out in front. On occasions the boat 6 were becalmed on the leg back to the finishing line. Camp, sailing the Sherlwyn, took advantage of every gust of wind, and crossed the finishing line 30 seconds ahead of the Vixen and the Amina.
