The attendance was 47,000, and the totalisator handled £322,339 10s, a New Zealand record, against £305,316 last year. The three-year-olds Sweet Spray and Beaumaris made gallant efforts in the Auckland Cup, but were beaten by a six-year-old marc, Swanec.
