A Super-Fortress with 20 persons on board is lost in the ocean in the Bermuda area. It was one of a number of Super-Fortresses flying from California to England with a halt at Bermuda.
The last radio message from the bomber reported that it was running out of petrol after a 3500-mile nonstop flight and was preparing to land on the ocean.
Twenty-three United States planes, including 15 Super-Fortresses which completed the hop to Bermuda, have been ordered to search for the missing bomber to-day, and if no trace of it is found to-day ttye search force will be increased to’3s planes to-morrow to cover 40.000 square miles in the largest peace-time operation of its kind.
All ships within 100 miles of Bermuda have been asked to keep a sharp look-out for the plane.
