LIBRARY STAFF

PRAISE FROM CR SIDEY

“EFFICIENT AND WILLING”

An objection to criticism of the staff of the Dunedin Public Library in the columns of newspapers was raised by the chairman of the Library Committee of the City Council, Cr Sidey, at the meeting of the council last night. “I have every confidence in the staff of the library. These employees are efficient, willing and hard working,” Cr Sidey said. The speaker added that it was a recognised procedure for the public to make complaints in respect to the library through the proper channels, and if this were done, a proper inquiry would be made to satisfy everyone.

“I object to statements being made which obviously cannot be substantiated,” Cr Sidey concluded. Cr Taverner, seconding the adoption of the report presented by the Library Committee, commended Cr Sidey on his presentation of the case for the library to the people of Dunedin. Cr Taverner suggested, however, that Cr Sidey. should confer with the chairman of the General Committee, Cr Smith, to have parking prohibited in the space in front of the entrance to the library. He said that about eight cars were parked in front of the library all day and for a good part of the night. He thought that people should be able to drive up to the entrance to the building. Signs prohibited parking in front of the YMC. further down the street.

Others present were the Deputy Mayor, Cr Wright, and Crs a. J. Anderson, N. D. Anderson, Hayward, Barnes, Armitage and Smith.
