NEW SOUTH WALES SEEKS TO CONTROL PETROL RATIONING
„ SYDNEY. Oct. 25. • r j New South Wales Cabinet will introduce legislation empowering the State Government to control petrol rationing if the Commonwealth Act is successfully challenged. This decision is the result of a request made by the Commonwealth at the recent Premiers’ conference. A Bill is now before the Commonwealth Parliament to reimpose rationing. The High Court ruled in June that the Commonwealth had no power to ration petrol, although individual States had such power. All the States except Victoria have now delegated their powers to ration petrol to the Commonwealth.
The secretary of the Queensland Automobile Chamber of Commerce, Mr W. L. Pope, has stated in Brisbane that the Chamber will challenge the legality of the new Commonwealth rationing scheme early next year.
