PROMISING COLTS

CELLOPHANE AND TE MARU 1 BRIGHT FUTURE PREDICTED Two promising three-year-old pacing colts in Cellophane and, Te Maru were produced at the Gore and Oamaru meerings respectively, and both should take high honours later on. Cellophane, wno led all the way in the Knapdale Trot, was never asked to, do anything like his best as there was nothing in the race capable of going with him and his winning margin could have been much Wider than it was. Got by Honestus (Jack Potts —Fanny Logan), a half-brother to Avernus and Plutus, Cellophane is from Belle Grattan, by Grattan Loyal from Lady Norris, by Lee Norris from Sweet Lorene, by Lorene’s Todd from Sweet Daphne, by Rothscjiild. Cellophane is a third foal and is a lialf-brother to Great Venture (by Lusty Volo) and Belmont Hall (by Dillon Hall). Great Venture’s list of wins includes the Dominion Trotting Handicap last season. Although Te Mar.u was beaten at Oamaru by Vedette, his defeat is largely accounted for by the fact that he did not begin well, but he showed a fine turn of speed on the journey. A handsome, neatly-moulded son of Sandydale. he was got from Daisy Scott, by U. Scott from Daisy Pointer, by Logan Pointer from Dayspring. by California from Daybreak, by Vancitve. 'Daigy Gold.and Daisy Bar are half • s { sters to te Maru by Gold Bar. Te Maru is engaged in the Riccarton Stakes, for threc-year-olds. at Addington on Saturday, and he looks capable of adding interest to the finish. Jottings Jason’s Quest looked in fine condition at Oamaru and it will occasion no surprise if he wins a race at the Addington meeting. The Gold Bar mare, Golden Slipper, was badlv placed at a vital stage of the Ferr brook Handicap at Oamaru. otherwise she would probably have paid a dividend. Once she got clear she finished well to reach fifth place. Constellation was solidly backed for the President’s Handicap at Oamaru and she was well placed all the way, but could not pull, out that little extra speed required in the run home. Trotted Solidly

Sure Peg. who is now in J. Brophy’s stable at Pleasant Point, went her best r£ci) for some time to finish third In the Waitski Handicap. She was one of the leaders all the way.

Improving Trotter Cas.-j-neter lost‘liis chance of paying a dividend in the Waitaki Handicap at Oamaru by breaking in the run home when one of the leaders., The’Casanova geldinv is an improving trotter who looks sure to take a better mark. A Good Performance

Peggydale put up an outstanding performance to finish fifth in the President s Handicap at Oamaru as she lost her handicap by dwelling at the start, and her piospects looked anything but bright. The Sandydale mare has' speed and stamina and she may return to the list of winners at any time. Improvement Likely The U. Scott gelding Loyal Scott is likely to show improvement before long, lie was confidently supported for the Fernbrook Handicap, but it looked as Ihouel. D. C. Watts made his run too soon and Lcval Scott was stopping at the finish after being fourth into the straight.
