STRONG OPPOSITION
Yugoslav Membership To Security Council Soviet Bloc Campaign NZPA— Copyright » Rec. 11 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 13. The Soviet bloc ill the United Nations to-night made a serious diplomatic issue out of United States efforts to have Yugoslavia elected to the Security Council. Five Communist nations sent identical Notes to all the United Nations delegations calling for the election of Czechoslovakia. A nonCommunist European source said this formal communication in diplomatic style indicated the serious tone of Russian views that if Yugoslavia won the council seat it might lead to unforeseen events. Meanwhile, Yugoslavia carried the cold war against the Soviet one step further. The Yugoslav delegate. Dr Alves Bebler, complained to the Sec-retary-general, Mr Trygve Lie, that certain Soviet members of the United Nations staff have been campaigning against Yugoslavia’s election. Reuter says the Russian representative, Mr Constantin Zinchenko, is reported to have warned Mr Lie that Russia would be forced to walk out of the United Nations if Yugoslavia was elected.
