CHRISTMAS PARCELS
LAST-MINUTE RUSH MAIL CLOSES THIS MORNING Although the Post Office authorities are hopeful that parcels sent to Britain by the mail which closes at Dunedin at 11.30 this morning will reach their destination in time for distribution before Christmas, there is some doubt about the matter.
, A postal official told the Daily Times yesterday that there had been the usual last-minute rush by those sending food parcels to their relatives and friends in Britain. The Post Office here had been able to deal with the rush, though this necessitated augmented staffs and working long hours. The experience ■of last year, however, showed that the British Post Office had not been able to cope with the abnormal demands, and that in some cases parcels were not delivered for weeks after their arrival.
