FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS
OTAGO TEAM ANNOUNCED CONTESTS IN DUNEDIN' The New Zealand fencing champion-', ships to be held in Dunedin on October 21, 22, and 24, in the YWCA gymnasium, will be of particular interest because fencing has been included in the list of sports for the British Empire Games at Auckland next year The possible team for the Games will be selected from the men and women taking part in the championships. The Deputy Mayor, Cr L. M. Wright, associated with'Sir Joseph Ward, the president of the New Zealand Amateur Fencing Association, will open the conference at 10 a.m. on Friday, and fencers from all over New Zea-' land will take part' in the foil contest and individual championships for men ahd women in foil, epee, and sabre bouts. The teams to represent Otago-South-land at the championships are:— Women.—Mrs J. Mac Gibbon (Dunedin Club) and Misses C. Stewart (YWCA), L. Brookes (YWCA), and M. pibson (Dunedin). Reserve. Miss M. Leary (Dunedin). Men.—T. Wane (Invercargill), J. Grieve (Invercargill), M. Miller (Dunedin), and D. Ward (YWCA). Reserve, K. Fleming (Dunedin). *
