UNIVERSITY SALARIES
Sir,—As one who has long been sceptical of much that passes for education in our vaunted hall, of learning, , the local University, I read with some astonishment of the new salary increases awarded to its over-worked staff. About six months of lecturing which seems to be a re-hashing of the stale fare of previous sessions, and then a long vacation for wearied brains! , . , I also notice that there is a special •• augmentation fund ” which the Minister of Education says is to be used as a sort of bonus so that the services of these gentlemen may be retained for the country's good. I think it would be more beneficial if he were to set up a fund to help some of them to find sinecures eleswhere.—I am, etc., Don Quixote.
