Russian Exploration In Antarctic
NZPA—Copyright Rec. 11.59 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 13. The Russians had explored antarctica with the aid of unnamdd ships and powerful planes, Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd declared to-night. Whether they were after uranium he could not say. Admiral Byrd did not disclose the source of his information. He said, however, that there were reports that uranium could be found in the South Polar regions, where some areas had never been explored. He revealed that the United States defence chiefs were considering another expedition to Antarctica. His own expedition plan was not dead, in spite of two previous rejections. Admiral Byrd added that a number of countries, including New Zealand, Chile and Argentina had claimed various sections of Antarctica.
