HAREWOOD AIRPORT
EXTENSION PLAN ANNOUNCEMENT RECEIVED WITH ENTHUSIASM MANUFACTURERS APPRECIATIVE , The Otago-Southland Manufacturers’ Association has expressed its appre-. ciation of the announcement by the Minister in Charge of Civil Aviation, Mr Jones (published in the Daily Times on Wednesday) that construction work would start shortly on extending the Harewood airport. “We naturally assume that the representations by interested organisations and citizens, particularly the business community, have borne fruit,”. the secretary of the association, Mr F. L. Hitchens, said yesterday. “Although the. Minister has not specifically stated that Harewood will be an international airport, or a South Island overseas air. terminal, it is naturally expected that the intention of the Government is towards this end.
“ The Otago-Southland Manufacturers’ Association welcomes the. Minister’s announcement, and is appreciative of this decision, which will mean so much to the business community of Otago and Southland as well as to the. two provinces as a whole.”
