WATER SUPPLY

North End Problem “ I am greatly perturbed about the water supply outside the borough boundary, and I fear the people will be in for a tough time during the warm weather,” said Cr W. R. Laney at last night’s meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council. " During the recent dry spell people in College lane were 1 without water for two days, and further north there may be more of these cases.” In the Casa Nova ai"a the water pressure was at a low ebb. Some time ago he had brought down a recommendation to the Waterworks Committee with reference to new connections to the existing mains outside the boundary, but no result of the committee's deliberations had been received, Cr Laney said. He outlined the number of new connections which would be made to the mains in this area in the near future, and these included a large number of State and private houses and a factory. Cr A. E. Hodge pointed out that the engineer had brought down a plan to improve the water supply at the North End, and that the shortage of water hot only "existed outside, but also inside the borough.

In reply to a question, the engineer, Mr K. A. Ballinger, said that if a private person laid a main in the council road it became the property of the council, and other connections could be made.

The question was referred to the Waterworks Committee to bring down a report on the connection of new supplies to the existing mains outside the borough.
