At a meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Plunket Society a resolution of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr W. Downie Stewart. Commander L. P. Bourke, 0.8. E., D.S.C. and bar, R.D., R.N.Z.N., has been* appointed honorary aide-de-camp to the Governor-General, vice Lieutenant-com-mander P. T. Williams, R.N.

A ' presentation was recently made by the Otago Road Transport and Motor and Horse Drivers' Union to Mr J. S. Donaldson, who had been a member of its executive for the past 23 years. Mr J. Murray Sidey has been admitted to partnership in the firm of Forsyth, Barr and Co. An announcement to this effect was made at a meeting of the Dunedin Stock Exchange this week. Mr H. G. Woolman, works manager of Reckitt and Colman, will leave Dunedin on Saturday on the first part of a journey to England. He will leave Auckland by air on Monday, and fly via the United States. Mr Woolman will return to Dunedin in about eight weeks. Brigadier C. E. Weir, commander of the Southern Military District, left Dunedin yesterday morning, had lunch with Territorial Force officers at Gore, and continued to Invercargill. While in Dunedin during the past three days. Brigadier Weir met officers of the Territorial Force and paid farewell calls on the town clerk. Mr R. A. Johnston, and other civic officials. Brigadier Weir will leave New Zealand shortly for Britain where he will be on attachment to the War Office.

Mr C. Roy Spackman, who has completed 21 years as organist and choirmaster of Knox Presbyterian Church, was entertained by the choir and later by the session and Deacons’ Court of the congregation, and given presentations in recognition of his long service. Best wishes were extended to Mr Spackman for a pleasant voyage when he takes a trip abroad next year.
