FAREWELL RECEPTION

On Thursday afternoon a pleasant function was held in the Pioneer Women s Memorial Hall to honour the retiring provincial president of the League of Mothers, Mrs P. H. Jones. Over 100 town and country members who had been associated with Mrs Johes during her 11 years, on the executive attended the gathering. The newly-appointed president, Mrs L. D. Mclver, was in the chair. Among the many greetings received were those from the Dominion president, Mrs H. H. Cornish, and from two past provincial presidents, Mrs E. N. Merrinpton and Mrs G H Seddon. They all paid tribute to the many outstanding qualities of Mrs Jones', who had never faltered iD her unswerving loyalty and devotion to the league. Mrs W. P Campbell spoke on behalf of present town ofTicers, Mrs Milligan for the Joint Committee, Southland Mrs T. Coartsworth for country officers, and Mrs J. Wallace for past provincial officers Several other members spoke in appreciation. Mrs Mclver then asked Mrs Jones to accept, as a token of the esteem of members a replica of the League of Mothers badge in gold and a church hymnary suitably inscribed, and also a bouquet of flowers. , , Mrs Jones thanked the members for their encouragement and help and spoke of the fellowship and friendship existing among the branches.
