African Chief And White Wife Reach Their Mud Hut City
NZPA—Copyright Rec. 10 p.m. CAPE TOWN, Aug. 22. Seretse Khama, chief-elect of the Bamangwato tribe of BechuanaJand, with his white wife, the Lon-, don typist, Ruth Williams, reached Serowe, capital of Bamangwato, yesterday. The tribal regent, Tshekedi Khama. Seretse’s uncle, who had sworn to leave if the white queen arrived, was conveniently absent, and so were most of the tribal chiefs. No one welcomed the couple to the mud hut city where Ruth hopes one day to rule as queen. Apart from a few naked piccaninnies, there was no one to cheer.
