It was stated authoritatively to-day that the Commonwealth Government will wait to see how close the proposed import cuts go to bridging the dollar gap before considering a dollar loan. The informant said a dollar loan would be the last resort if it were found that alternative sources of imports were not sufficient to continue to provide a stable Australian economy. . The Prime Minister, Mr Chifiey, who is known to hold the belief that Aus : tralia should not incur any more overseas debts, recently stated: '“We are not anxious to enter into any commitments requiring repayments in dollars. but the situation is so extraordinary that we must keep a completely flexible mind.’’
