CITY COUNCIL IS BOROUGH COUNCIL
A councillor learned to his surprise, last night that the body commonly known as the Dunedin City Council is the “Dunedin Borough Council.’’ On the agenda paper at the council meeting last night was a letter from the Prime Minister’s Office replying to one from the council supporting a request by the Port Chalmers Borough Council that urgency should be given to irrigation worn in Central Otago. The reply stated that the representations “ from the Dunedin Borough Council and the Port Chalmers Borough Council” would be given full consideration. Cr Smith: Did I hear aright? The town clerk, Mr R. A. Johnston: We are a borough, sir. ; The, Deputy Mayor, Cr Wright: Now that that ptoint has been cleared up, will someone move that the letter be received? This was done. (Under the Municipal Corporations Act, a “borough council” includes a city council, and both have the same statutory rights.)
