TOWN PLANNING
PROPOSALS WELL ADVANCED PROGRESS REPORT TO COUNCIL A summary of the business transacted at a meeting of local body representatives to discuss town planning which was held last Wednesday was given to the members of the City Council at its meeting last night by Cr W. S. Armitage, who had acted as chairman. The meeting had been a most valuable one, he said, the discussions taking place being very helpfyl. He was very pleased with the results. Mosgiel and Green Island Boroughs, Cr Armitage said, were already in process of preparing a town planning scheme, and the Taieri County was in process of planning an extra-urban area.’ Outwardly, the City Council had no results to show, but the city engineer, Mr S. G. Scoular, had been cornpiling information on this matter and preparing data for years, and it was all on his files. Actually, a whole lot had been done. Entirely as a result of the meeting in question the Peninsula County, which had not been represented officially, had adopted the resolution, which embraced the territory from Waitati to Allanton. The Town Planning Board in Wellington could increase or reduce the area covered in the resolution. Although there had been criticism, affairs were much further ahead than one would be led to believe. The whole matter would come before the next meeting of the council, Cr Armitage added.
