QUIET PERIOD AT RICCARTON

Special to the Daily Times

CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 22. After the bustle of the last few weeks, while the race meeting was in progress, there was a great change at Riccarton this morning. Most of the southern visitors have gone home and those for the North Island will all get away during the next day or two. Some of the local trainers were at the track but others were missing and the work was negligible. As usual, the course proper was open for the two-year-olds and a few of the youngsters were given easy tasks. It may be available to them for a few days this week. In the four days covered by the Hunt Club and Grand National meetings there were 34 races, of which 14 were won by Riccarton horses, nine by North Island visitors and 11 by horses lrom other parts of the South Island. Of the local winners C. G Humphries trained Royal Scrip and Te Kooti; M. J. Wadley, Money Lender and Valley Gold, while Terminus won twice for J. A. Cox. The others were F. D. Jones, Johnny Peep; A. J. Griffin, Roman Son; R. B. Robinson, Cast High; J. S. Shaw, F>xen; C. C. McCarthy, Julius Caesar; L. J. Ellis, Personality; L. Cavalier, Supreme Command, and C. B. Dawson, Fimgin.
