CHARGE DISMISSED
ASSAULT ON GIRL SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES “ You are extremely fortunate in this case, for the circumstances as detailed in the evidence are highly suspicious,” said Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., to Albert Edward Dandanelles Wilson, a labourer, aged 33, when dismissing a charge of assault against him. heard in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The police were not only justified in bringing the case, but were bound to do so, he said. All reasonable doubt of guilt had not been dismissed from his mind, however. Wilson, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting a girl aged 10 years, was represented by Mr G. T. Baylee. Chief Detective Hall conducted the prosecution. Failed to Register James Smith, Horace William Ernest Clough, and Edward Thomas Peters, trading as the Otago Tile Company (Mr W. McAlevey), were each fined 10s, with costs (5s 4d), for using an unlicensed factory. Similarly charged, the Southern Cross Tile Company (Mr C. H.. Stephens) was fined 30s, with costs (10s). Mr M. A. Smithens, the inspector of factories, prosecuted. Aiding and Abetting Balfour Forbes McLean was fined £2, with costs (10s), for aiding and abetting the offence of being unlawfully on licensed premises. Unlicensed Radios For operating an unlicensed wireless set, the following persons were fined £2, with costs (10s):—Richard Henry Beaton, Allan Edward Hardman, Walter Graham, L. Henderson, Elsie Edith Johnston. Herbert James McCormick, Harold Pope, and Raymond Milton Weir. Similarly charged, Doreen Palmer was fined £l, with costs (10s). Chimney Fire William Horace McLean was fined £l, with costs (10s), for allowing his chimney to go on fire.
