CHARGE DENIED

THEFT OF TWO GOLD WATCHES MAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL PA AUCKLAND, Aug. 22. A charge that he stole two gold watches valued at £l4O from the Auckland Museum was made in the Police Court to-day against Virgil Lee Vandevander, aged 32, a labourer, born in the United States. The police said Vandevander was employed as an attendant at the museum for one week. He denied having stolen or pawned the watches. At an identification parade, two witnesses picked him out as the man who pawned the watches. The accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
