Mrs P. G. Connolly has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs H. Duffy, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs Connolly. Mrs James Begg has returned to Dunedin from a visit to the North Island. Mrs R. Sutherland, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs A. W. Hazelwood, Ings avenue. Mrs Arthur Roydhouse, Wallace street, left yesterday for a holiday in the Waira- , rapa. Mrs G. M. Burnett, Otago-Southland representative of the Ladies’ Golf Union, is visiting Roxburgh for the club tournament. The Rev. Mr and Mrs Arthur Ivory wiU return to-day from Ashburton. Dr R. R. Nimmo will be the guest speaker at the Overseas League function this evening. Mrs J. A. Casey left on Friday to judge the national dancing sections at the Timaru competitions. , Dr and Mrs S. C. Howes have returned to Dunedin from England where Dr Howes was engaged in post-graduate studies. Miss Mary Wilson, who recently returned from overseas, will be the guest speaker at the Dunedin Travel Club’s morning tea reception to-morrow. The hostesses will be Mrs J. Starr and Mrs R. R. Hardie. Dr Helen Deem and Miss D. Lusk are in Dunedin for the provincial conference of the Plunket Society. To-morrow afternoon Dr Deem will address the conference on the prevention of accidents to young children and Miss Lusk will speak on mothercraft. Mr O. C. Stephens will speak on “ Some Aspects of Chinese Art in Pottery ’’ ai the Otago Women's Club to-morrow afternoon. Mrs Rex Beach spoke on " Impressions of Hongkong ’’ at the monthly social afternoon of the Theosophical women’s Association held on Saturday. Piano solos were played by Mrs Barkman, recitations were given by Mrs McMillan, song.bv Miss A. Barkman. and violin solos bv Mr R. Pettitt Dr M. M Gemmell has arrived in Dunedin to take ujp an appointment with the New Zealand Plunket Society as assistant to Dr Helen Deem, medical adviser to the society. Since her arrival from Scotland about three weeks ago. Dr Gemmell has been touring Plunket centres in the North Island with Dr Deem. “Woman’s place is in the-home’’ was debated at the monthly social of the Catholic Women’s League held in St Joseph's Hall last Tuesday evening. Mesdames W. C. McDonnell and T. M. McConnell spoke for the affirmative and Mesdames A. Simon and J. S. D. More opposed the proposition. Several enjoyable competitions were held and supper concluded the evening. Miss N. P. Fitzgibbon presided and the hostesses were Mesdames L’Estrange. McManus, and Rabbette.
