STAFF ENGINEER

NEW DUTIES BEGUN CITY COUNCIL DEPARTMENT The new staff engineer in the city engineer’s department, Mr E. J. Jenkins, B E., A.M.1.C.E., A.M.N.1.E., who arrived in Dunedin from Fiji on Saturday, began his duties yesterday morning. A Dunedin man. Mr Jenkins had been executive engineer of the Public Works Department in Fiji until selected for his new position from five applicants. Mr Jenkins was educated at NorthEast Valley School, the Otago Boys’ High School, and Canterbury College. During the war he served as assistant engineer in the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram and later as engineer officer at Nelson. In 1945 he was appointed assistani engineer to the Timaru Borough Council, and in the following year became assistant county engineer at Ashburton. Later in the same year he accepted a post in Fiji, where he was employed until gaining his present position. He is 34 years old.
