BUTTER RATIONING
Sirl am amazed at the utter selfishness of “ Icso Facto ” and her kind. Here in New Zealand we are lucky enough to have plenty of dripping, lard, suet, etc., in our shops, and with a little thought good, wholesome-cakes can be made with all these. My family and I recently arrived from England, where each person is strictly rationed to 7oz of fats a week, only three of which are butter. People here just do not realise that it is impossible to buy fat of any kind beyond the ration. This means that one cap rarely fry fish, never chips, or, I was going to say, baste the joint, but that is a thing of the past. As for preferring margarine to butter—stuff and nonsense! This rationing business all started with a little war we had—remember!—and everybody helped everybody else. How soon we forget and go back to every man lor himself.—l am, etc.. Homey.
