A DFFENCE POLICY
Sir, —" Old Digger ” says in brief that military training would be good for the youth of this country, and that I could not say otherwise. 1 think a lot can be said against conscription, and I would like to quote to “ Old Digger " what Edgar L. Jones, a writer on military affairs with military experience, says in the January number of the Atlantic Monthly. “ X personally believe that the adjustment to military life could be made easier for the youngsters (and vicariously for their parents) if the army would can its ballyhoo that conscription is ‘ good for our boys ’ and stand instead on the contention that military training while tough, is good fqr the country.” The antagonism to youth often evinced by those growing old could be a more, deep-seated reason than patriotism for making these people vote yes to conscription.—l am, etc..
